Large Woodfired Hand-Built Plate

Thuy employs hand-building techniques to craft each plate by shaping the clay manually without the use of a potter's wheel. This approach allows for greater creative freedom and results in unique textures and forms, reflecting her personal touch. 

Thuy begins by crafting the base of the plate and then rolls clay into long coils. She arranges these coils concentrically on the base, gently pressing and blending them together to ensure an even distribution from the center outward. This process continues until the plate reaches the desired size and thickness. Once the clay has dried, Thuy applies a glaze to the surface, allows it to dry again, and finally fires the piece in the kiln.
